Diving Barbuda The dense reefs fringing Barbuda are largely unexplored. There are no dive shops on the island, but experienced snorkelers can swim to Palaster Reef, off Palmetto Point on the southwest tip of the island. More than 100 shipwrecks have been documented off Barbuda’s coast. Charter day-trips from Antigua can be easily arranged. Antigua Dive Operators Aquanaut Diving Centres are at the St. ag. com. Flying time to Anguilla from St. Maarten is seven minutes; from San Juan and Antigua, one hour; from St. Thomas, 45 minutes; from St. Kitts, 35 minutes. Ferry Service: From Marigot Bay, St. Martin, to Blowing Point takes 15-20 minutes. Ferries depart at approximately 40-minute intervals during the day. There is one evening ferry that departs Blowing Point at 6 pm and Marigot, St. Martin, at 7:30. The ferries vary, but are small, none take vehicles, and all protect you from the weather. The crossing is about 20 to 30 minutes each way and ferries run every half hour during daylight.
Don’t miss the last ferry at 7 pm. Driving: On the left. Driver’s license required. US$10 for visitor’s permit. May be obtained at the police station or any car-rental agency. Documents: Passports and onward ticket are required of all visitors. Customs: Visitors may bring in duty-free one carton of cigarettes or cigars, one half-pound of tobacco, one bottle of liquor, and four ounces of perfume.
