These reliefs were wrapped around column capitals and fitted into the tympanums, or arched spaces above doorways (the complete door, tympanum, arch, and supporting pillars assemblage is the portal). But the Parisian architect is chiefly remembered for his steeply sloping namesake, “mansard” roofs.
